Frequently Asked Questions

What is Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is a gentle therapeutic approach that uses relaxation and focused attention to help the mind work in a calmer, more useful way.

It is not stage hypnosis, and it is not about losing control. In a therapy setting, hypnosis is used to help you relax, focus, and become more open to helpful suggestions and new ways of thinking.

What is Solution Focused Hypnotherapy?

Solution Focused Hypnotherapy looks at where you are now, where you would like to be, and what can help you move forward.

Rather than spending every session going over the problem again and again, we focus on helping you understand how the mind works, what is already helping, and what small steps can support positive change.

How many sessions would I need?

This depends on what you would like support with and how things progress for you.

Some people notice changes quite quickly, while others benefit from a longer course of sessions. We can talk about this during your initial consultation, so you have a clearer idea of what may be suitable for you.

Is hypnotherapy safe?

Hypnotherapy is generally considered safe when carried out by a trained professional.

You remain aware, you remain in control, and the process is gentle. If you have any medical conditions, mental health concerns, or are receiving support from another professional, we can talk about this before starting to make sure hypnotherapy is appropriate for you.

Can you come to me?

Yes, home or workplace visits may be available depending on your location, needs, and whether the space is suitable for hypnotherapy.

The session would need to take place somewhere quiet, private, and comfortable, where you can relax without being disturbed. We can talk this through during the initial consultation and decide what works best.

If a visit is possible, any travel arrangements or additional costs will be made clear before booking.

Do we talk about painful memories?

No. Solution Focused Hypnotherapy does not require you to go back through painful memories or talk in detail about things you are not ready to discuss.

The focus is much more on where you are now, where you want to be, and what can help you move forward.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes, online sessions may be available depending on what you would like support with.

Many people find online hypnotherapy comfortable because they can relax in their own space. All you need is somewhere quiet, a stable internet connection, and a place where you can sit or lie down safely during the relaxation part of the session.

What if I can't be hypnotised?

Many people worry about this at first.

Hypnosis is not about being “good” at it or doing it perfectly. It is simply a relaxed and focused state, which most people naturally experience in everyday life — such as when driving a familiar route, getting lost in a book, or drifting before sleep.

All you need to do is listen, relax as best you can, and allow the process to happen in your own way.

What if I feel nervous or emotional?

That is completely okay.

Many people feel nervous before their first session, especially if they have never tried hypnotherapy before or are not sure what to expect. The first appointment is there to help you feel comfortable, understand the process, and ask any questions before moving forward.

Emotions can also come up from time to time, and there is nothing wrong with that. You will not be judged or rushed. If you do feel emotional, we can pause, take things gently, and continue at a pace that feels right for you.
